Description: ‘Ummatan Wasataa’ is from the Qur’an (2:143) meaning “a justly balanced community”.
In this course, we will explore Islam’s perfectly balanced approach towards a range of issues. We will compare and contrast Islam’s approach, reasons and outcomes with the extreme ideologies that dominate in the world today. Topics to be covered will include both personal aspects (belief, worship, gender, family roles and relations) as well as collective aspects (politics, economics, international relations).
Through this study, the course highlights Islam’s wisdom, liveability, and harmony, demonstrating how Ummatan Wasataa remains a timeless model for a just, perfect way of life. Insha’Allah, after this class, students will be equipped to understand the harms and negatives of extreme and shifting ideologies, and they will gain a deeper intellectual understanding and appreciation of Islam’s approach.
There is no prescribed text for this class, detailed class slides will be provided.
